My Cards
Every one of my cards is a standalone art piece. These cards are the originals as I made them. While I may use similar plant matter no two cards are exactly alike. The weather, sun and processing see to that. Additionally I enhance each card with inks, pastels or watercolours, depending on the look I want.
The art is done on any number of papers. Some of my favourites to use are Japanese Washi, St Armand handmade paper from Montreal and fine printmaking papers. Each paper brings a unique quality to the cyanotype process. While the papers all have the wonderful Prussian blue colour cyanotype produces the exposures to the sun, time of day and season all contribute to exactly how blue the paper will appear. Part of the joy is watching them develop before your eyes in the water and vinegar bath. I have included a video on the page so you can watch it too.
Its pretty magical.
These one of a kind art prints are then painted and mounted onto 300 gram watercolour cardstock. Supplied with a thick creamy white envelope and packaged in a cello sealed bag.
All my cards measure 5"x7" and are ready to be framed if you or the recipient so desires.
Why not make your card part of the gift to be remembered.
Cards can say a lot more than just best wishes. All my cards are original, not copies. Each one has its own look. Giving a card the recipient can frame or keep for years makes it just that much more special. Your gift can be the card when you give an original one of a kind work of art.
Bees and bug Cards
I have a 1910-1911 Encyclopedia Britannica set and multiple vintage natural history books,
Using these encyclopedias and books allows me to photocopy the images I like. Images, which are generally pretty small are enlarged. I fill in the missing details with pen and ink as the image size increases.
Once I am satisfied with the result, I copy them onto fine Japanese papers. I use my imagination to add colour and more detail. They are not the actual bugs as they were presented . They become fantasy bugs from my imagination. They are related to the old bugs from 1910 just a lot bigger and in a lot more colour.
I love bees! So I do a lot of different cards with bee images . Growing a garden that flowers from early spring to late fall, I have many species of bees visit. Seeing the bees around my spring garden tells me winter is in retreat.
